At the crossroads of various artistic - fields, theatre, circus, visual arts and dance - Jambenoix Mollet and Philippe Eustachon are pursuing their joint adventure. On the footsteps of Le Grand Nain, in which Robinson and Man Friday were questioning our desire for otherness, comes Mister Monster and the myth of the wild child, a dive into our wildest, freakiest recesses, our innermost primeval forests. “Valentin and Orson, a French chapbook, takes us deep into the world of imagination and fantasy. It was one of the first stories published in old French by printers as far back as 1600, which brought back to life a very large and very old collection of oral folk literature. Valentin and Orson are twins of noble extraction who are separated when their mother walks through a dense forest and a she-bear snatches one of the boys. One of them will be raised in the knights’ court, while the other, raised on bear's milk, becomes a stupendously strong loner who terrorizes the forest and makes it his territory. Valentin ends up chasing and catching Orson, but it is the latter who, rapidly tamed, will then act so prodigiously he is promised to the throne. Against all odds, Orson then refuses this honour and flees back to the forest. From this incredibly long epic consisting of 74 chapters, I have extracted several topics I would like to showcase on stage in the form of 7 scenes: birth, twinship, education, forest, fight, power and Orson’s escape. (...) This theatre proposal will be fiercely physical. Whether it is shown through chases, impacts, contacts, sensuality, or contrasting stillness, the body is the main tool here to tell the story. From 12 april to 5 may 2010, from 14 to 23 october 2010 Jambenoix Mollet - artistic director and performer - became a student of the CNAC de Châlons-en-Champagne en 1992. He graduated in 1995 and co-founded company Anomalie. Since then, he has been an integral part of this collective and has been involved in all its productions: Le cri du caméléon with Josef Nadj, 33 tours de piste - collective production, Et après, on verra bien... with Guy Alloucherie, Bascule with Christian Lucas, Anatomie-Anomalie with Martin Zimmermann and Le Grand Nain with Philippe Eustachon. From a set of obsessive questions, including one on the links between the groups and individuals, Mollet creates and directs events that mix circus and videos: Repérages à Cherbourg, Les rencontres dans la Matière, Joyeul Guigou, Arts du cirque, arts du risque. He also has lead three artistic projects in Bangladesh with Clowns Without Borders. Currently he is working with Delphine Lanson on a short film called Quelqu’un frappe à la porte! Since June 2007, he has been the artistic director for the company Anomalie.
Following many collaborations as a performer or director’s assistant (Ilotopie, F.M. Pesenti, Claude Régy, etc), director Philippe Eustachon has worked on first productions which led him to live in Colombia, Vietnam and Mexico, from 1997 to 2003. He was awarded the Prize of Villa Médicis Hors-les-Murs in 1999.In France, he has produced Mario Bellatin’s Kamikaze Taxi during the Festival 100 Dessus Dessous in La Villette in 2003, Constellation-Le marin after F. Pessoa at the Théâtre Garonne in Toulouse in 2004, and Naked Battles, at 3bis F, La Friche Belle de Mai and La Ferme du Buisson in 2005. In 2007, he met Jambenoix Mollet with whom he performed and directed Le Grand Nain, during the Labomatic Théâtre at La Ferme du Buisson. He also has translated Mexican literature, including La représentation (ed. Les Solitaires Intempestifs) and Belize by David Olguin (Ed. La Guillotine), and Phèdre et autres grecques by Ximena Escalante. He is a member of the Hispanic commission of Maison Antoine Vitez - international centre for translation. David Dumoulin (dramaturgy advisor) is a sociologist who lived for many years in Latin America and published works on nature conservation policies, traditional knowledge of biodiversity and the struggles of indigenous people. His work led him to examine the parallels between our relationship to nature and native populations. He is currently writing an essay on the character of the ‘Sauvage’ (the ‘wild man’ or Native of yore) in yesterday’s and today’s societies (Dietetics of de-domestication). He has translated poetry and presents the radio show Recherche en cours. He had already worked in collaboration with Anomalie during the production of Le Grand Nain. |
